The Salesforce customer master

city skyline during golden hour

Salesforce is a cloud-based online solution for customer relationship management (CRM) that works with Pretectum CMDM. Salesforce provides all the business units of an organization like sales, marketing, service, support, accounting, logistics and warranties, making use of a shared view of the customer in a single integrated platform.

Salesforce is a boon for organizations that have a cloud-first approach to systems, organizations that want to minimize their effort to implement and organizations that have a trans-national or global organizational footprint.

Just as the implementation of an on-premise third party or solution or a custom application requires careful consideration, the implementation of Salesforce has the same requirement.

If inadequate data architecture planning occurs, Salesforce can end up as simply a siloed application with many of its own data quality issues which is why we think that pairing Salesforce with Pretectum CMDM is a great choice for every organization passionate about their Customer master data management and customer data quality.

Many companies implementing Salesforce will simply start as a group of users using it to track customers, prospects and sales opportunities only to confront bigger problems when systems are rationalised, or consolidated or mergers and acquisitions happen. So even Salesforce needs careful consideration of how you think about Customer master data management.

Salesforce customer profiles are made of two key components; Accounts that are used to store information about companies with which you might do business – these are typically considered the Master object; and Contacts, details of who are key decision-makers, key buyers and other influencers of a company; contacts like services requests, leads and opportunities are considered Detail objects

A Master-Detail relationship is one where there is a tight binding relationship between Parent objects and Child objects. In this case, the account is the Parent and the Detail object is the contact.

Child records should always be associated with a parent they should not exist as orphaned objects in the system.

So where does a customer master-concept as considered in Pretectum C-MDM align with the Master-detail model?

Pretectum focuses on the enduring elements that comprise the customer master, namely the names, personally identifiable information, contact information and critical attributes that your business needs.

A Pretectum CMDM Customer Master record is linked to a single Salesforce account. The linkage is by the Salesforce Account Number which is in both the Pretectum Customer Master and the Salesforce Account.

When entering a Pretectum Customer Master, the entered Salesforce Account Name and Customer Number can be used in the creation of the Salesforce Account.
